Murky Windrush joining the Thames - July 2019

Many of us know how terribly murky the Windrush has steadily become over the years. You younger folk may have never known it as a clean and healthy-looking river

Windrush at Widford in 2009 before the weed died and the river went grey/brown

The Environment Agency has been trying to convince the public that the shocking decline is somehow 'natural' and had promised to revisit its shaky reasoning which was based on a study of the river before it was like it has been in recent years.

Having failed to do that last year it has joined up with the major polluter of the Windrush, Thames Water, to conduct a very carefully selected study of some of the evidence and this letter sets out what we think of it.

Brilliant paper Ashley - would love to see the detail of all the new infrastructure improvements that TW are planning to meet the demands of the huge residential developments that are currently underway in the catchment of the Windrush and the Evenlode?
